CSO Jazz Series Raffle Winner Picked

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra organization continued supporting our Festival again this year by offering two tickets to 5 of next season’s Jazz Series concerts. This was truly generous participation that attracted many contributions on our mission to support hunger relief. Beneficiaries for this year’s Festival include:

Catholic Charities

With 153 programs at 154 locations throughout Cook and Lake counties, we serve virtually every neighborhood and parish in the Chicagoland area. Through our broad spectrum of services, we annually assist more than 1 million persons in Cook and Lake counties without regard to religious, ethnic or economic background. https://catholiccharities.net/default.aspx

Care For Real

Clients can come to Care for Real (CFR) once a month for staple food items…rice, beans, peanut butter, etc. Plus, they can come up to four times a week for the fresh produce and bread that is so generously donated by neighborhood groceries and bakeries. Yet the average CFR client “shops” for staples at the pantry just seven times a year. CFR is their safety net during especially hard times.
On average, CFR distributes nearly 60,000 pounds of food each month. We purchase most of our staple foods from the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Local retailers, bakeries, and shops, as well as 7-11, Aldi’s, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s regularly donate produce and bakery goods.

The community supports CFR with individual donations and food drives sponsored by houses of worship, schools, businesses, block clubs, and residential buildings.
Purchased food is selected for variety, nutrition and with respect for religious beliefs and ethnic preferences.

For the homeless, CFR distributes specially packaged foods that do not require refrigerated storage, can openers or cooking. In addition, CFR provides special food baskets for Thanksgiving, Eid al-Fitr and Christmas to make those holidays brighter for our neighbors.

When available, we also provide children’s diapers and cleaning, personal-hygiene products as well as home health care items (canes, adult incontinence items, skin care, etc.) when they are available.

CSO Continues Supporting The Chi-Town Jazz Festival

This year, as in years past, the Chicago Symphony Center Jazz Series continues to help our Chi-Town Jazz Festival get the word out. Here is info about the next jazz event they are planning. All details right here!

PAQUITO D’RIVERA QUINTET — ALFREDO RODRÍGUEZ & PEDRITO MARTINEZ DUO

Friday, March 8, 2019
8:00 PM

Enjoy a night of Latin jazz featuring two generations of Cuban masters. In his Symphony Center debut, 14-time Grammy® Award-winning clarinetist and saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera, a co-founder of the landmark ensemble Irakere, performs with his masterful quintet.

World-class Afro-Cuban hand percussionist Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez, a classically trained pianist and protégé of producer Quincy Jones, form a lively duo, exploring Cuban dance through a modern jazz lens.

Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez will sign CDs following the performance.
